Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the #1 cause of death for student athletes, but a simple ECG can help detect 95% of heart issues that cause Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Healthy Hearts is being put on by awesome foundations/donors: Ryan Powell Memorial Foundation, Holden Strong Awareness Campaign, Run for Sarah, and The Cody Stephens Go Big or Go Home Foundation. At this time we are offering 500 screenings, if you or know of someone who would like donate and be a part of this great event you can email myself at Jason.braud@fwisd.org or Nathan Schwarz at Nathan@codystephensfoundation.org with the subject line being “Healthy Hearts Help” and we will get you what you need whether its information or our donor letter. No amount is too small as the more we have come in the more students we can screen in the end, any donations will be going to the Cody Stephens Foundation and will be allocated appropriately.

This is a long time coming for some of us as back in 2009, FWISD lost Ryan Powell along with another student athlete to a Sudden Cardiac Arrest. I got involved as we were lucky enough to save a young man with the help of an AED that September. Through this journey I’ve gotten to know these great families and organizations through their loses. The Stephens Family has been pushing for legislation the past seven years after the loss of their son Cody, to have ECG’s become part of the sports physical. This past legislation, HB 76 was passed and will now be state law that parents will have the option to have their student athletes have an ECG with their physicals.

Please share this information with anybody you know as we want to make this event a great success!
